    Why You'll Love this Recipe

If you're interested in what to mix with Fireball, this hot cocktail is one of my favorite drinks with Fireball. I look forward to making these Fireball hot toddies every fall and winter.

    • This hot toddy recipe is made with four simple ingredients - whiskey, hot water, honey, and lemon.
    • It will instantly warm you up, soothe your throat, and has even been thought to help relieve a cold.
    • It's so quick and easy to make - boiling water is the hardest part!

    What is Fireball?

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky originated in Canada in the mid-1980s. It's a mixture of Canadian whisky, cinnamon flavoring, and sweeteners.

Canadians drop the "e" in whiskey, so you will see both spellings of Fireball Whisky and Fireball Whiskey throughout this post.

Whiskey must contain at least 40% ABV (alcohol by volume). Fireball has an ABV of 33%, meaning it's not strong enough to be considered true whiskey. Instead it's a liqueur, an alcoholic drink made with spirits as well as flavorings like sugar, fruits, herbs, and spices.

Either way, it's delicious and makes a flavorful hot whiskey drink, like this Fireball Hot Toddy.

    Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make a Fireball Hot Toddy: whiskey, water, honey, and lemon.
    • Fireball Cinnamon Whisky - A cinnamon-flavored whiskey, Fireball tastes sweet and strong, and will warm your throat. The taste reminds me of a liquid form of hot cinnamon candy, like Red Hots.
    • Hot Water - Bring water to a boil in a tea kettle. You can also use a microwave, but be careful.
    • Honey - The addition of honey makes this cocktail sweet and smooth.
    • Lemon Juice - A fresh squeeze of lemon juice is a refreshing addition to warm cocktails.

    Recommended Tools

    • Hot Toddy Glasses - Usually, hot toddies are served in a clear mug, like these glasses with a modern design. For a more traditional design, chose these clear drinking mugs.
    • Tea Kettle - Easily and safety boil water with an electric or stovetop tea kettle.
    • Lemon Squeezer - A lemon squeezer will make getting fresh lemon juice much easier.

How to Make a Fireball Hot Toddy

This simple Fireball drink recipe comes together quickly once the water comes to a boil. Get ready to fall in love with this Fireball whiskey cocktail! Here's what to do:

Step 1: Add boiling water and honey to a mug. Stir until the honey dissolves.

Step 2: Add Fireball and lemon juice. Stir to combine.

Step 3 (optional): Traditionally, a hot toddy is garnished with lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise, or cloves.

A tall clear mug is filled with Fireball Hot Toddy. The drink is surrounded by a bottle of whiskey, sliced lemon, and cinnamon sticks.

    Swaps & Substitutions

    • Make tea! Tea and whiskey pair well together. Flavor the boiling water with cinnamon tea, green tea, or a black tea like Lapsang Souchong.
    • Use a different liquor. Part of the joy of cooking and bartending is experimenting with new flavors! Try a hot toddy with bourbon, brandy, or dark rum. A ginger liqueur or maple liqueur would also be delicious options.
    • To make a non alcoholic hot toddy, omit the Fireball and use a cinnamon flavored tea instead.

    FAQs

What is the best whiskey for hot toddy?

Choose a whiskey you like when making a hot toddy. Personally, if I'm not making this Fireball hot toddy, I like to make a hot toddy with Jameson. This article gives more great options!

Should I make a hot toddy for cough or cold?

A hot toddy recipe does have ingredients to help calm a cough and can relieve symptoms of a cold. Drinking hot drinks is a common cold remedy. Lemon is rich in vitamin C and honey can soothe a sore throat. Although drinking alcohol may temporarily make you feel better, it can cause dehydration and lower your immune system. So, don't overdo the alcohol or it may be best to have a non-alcoholic hot toddy instead.

What are other drinks to make with Fireball?

Other than this hot toddy, you can mix Fireball with hot chocolate, coffee, or apple cider. Warm Fireball drinks are my favorite, but Fireball is also tasty served chilled as shot.
