Taco night is always my favorite-maybe because it usually involves a margarita in my hand! After eating more tacos than I can count in my lifetime, it's fun to mix things up with these BBQ brisket tacos. Juicy beef meets warm, soft tortillas, tangy BBQ sauce, and fresh toppings for an irresistible bite.

The best part? I use leftover brisket, so these tacos comes together in 10 minutes, making them ideal for busy weeknights or laid-back weekends. These shredded braised beef tacos are one of my favorite ways to transform leftover Dutch oven brisket into something new and exciting!

    My Twist on Taco Night

These tacos are the perfect mash-up of Texas BBQ and Tex-Mex. You've got smoky, tender brisket piled into warm, charred tortillas, topped with crisp onion, fresh cilantro, and a drizzle of my homemade Texas BBQ sauce for the perfect bite!

Every taste is packed with bold, satisfying flavor. Plus, if you have leftover brisket, these street tacos come together quick and easy just like my BBQ brisket nachos and brisket enchiladas recipe, perfect for busy weeknight dinners.

If you love taco recipes like my beer batter shrimp tacos and slow cooker shredded chicken tacos, this smoky, beefy twist on taco night is the perfect way to switch things up.

    Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make these braised brisket tacos.
    • Use leftover brisket that has been shredded or chopped.
    • Soft, pliable flour tortillas are ideal for holding hearty fillings like shredded brisket. Lightly charring them enhances their flavor and texture. Flour is my personal favorite, but you can use corn tortillas as well.
    • BBQ sauce is the best sauce for brisket tacos!
    • Cotija cheese brings a salty, crumbly texture that complements the smokiness of the brisket. For a meltier option, go with cheddar cheese or Monterey Jack cheese.

Don't forget your favorite taco toppings! I like to keep things simple with minimal toppings like diced white onions, fresh cilantro, skillet charred corn, sour cream, pico de gallo, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice or cilantro jalapeno chimichurri for brightness.

    Step by Step Instructions

A flour tortilla on a skillet.

Step 1: Heat a dry skillet to medium-high heat. Warm tortilla for about 20 seconds on each side until lightly charred.

A brisket taco with BBQ sauce, onions, cheese, and cilantro assembled on a cutting board.

Step 2: To assemble, place warm shredded brisket onto each tortilla. Sprinkle it with diced white onions, fresh cilantro, and cheese. Finish with a drizzle of BBQ sauce and your favorite taco toppings.

    Pro Tips

Pair with the best sides for tacos like chips and salsa, guacamole, beans, or cauliflower Spanish rice. And for the classic combination of tacos and margs, try this dish alongside my frozen limeade margarita or spicy jalapeno margarita!

Warm tortillas quickly in a a dry skillet to enhances their texture and flavor before assembling the taco.

Layer flavors with a mix of fresh, crunchy, creamy, and smoky elements to create the best beef brisket tacos.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups cooked brisket shredded or chopped
    • 6 flour tortillas or corn tortillas
    • 1 white onion diced
    • ⅓ cup BBQ sauce
    • ⅓ cup cotija cheese or Monterey Jack cheese
    • ¼ cup cilantro

    Use my recipes (optional):

    • Dutch oven brisket
    • Texas BBQ sauce recipe

    Instructions

    • Heat a dry skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Warm each tortilla for about 20-30 seconds per side until lightly charred and pliable. Set aside.
    • To assemble the tacos: Place a generous portion of warm shredded brisket onto each tortilla. Sprinkle it with diced onions, fresh cilantro, and cheese. Finish with a drizzle of BBQ sauce.

    Notes

    • If you are using leftover brisket that has been stored in the fridge, heat it in the microwave for about 30 seconds to warm through.
    • Alternatively, instead of drizzling this taco with BBQ sauce, you can toss the brisket and BBQ sauce together to coat the meat.
    • Additional taco toppings can include skillet charred corn, sliced avocado, pickled jalapenos, spicy chimichurri sauce, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice for brightness.
