For this recipe, I usually use blanco tequila. Reposado tequila is also a good option for an added smooth oak flavor.

How do I store leftover margaritas?

Leftovers? No comprende. IF you have leftovers, or want to make a batch of these ahead of time, put the margaritas in the freezer. Before you serve them again, put them back in the blender to remix the ingredients.

How did the margarita come to be?

It's hard to say exactly who created the margarita. Stories of its creation are as numerous as the variations of the drink itself. It is safe to say the drink was originally created in the early 1940s. It may have evolved from The Daisy, a classic cocktail popular around that time. The Daisy was a mix of alcohol, citrus juice, and orange cordial served over shaved ice. Fun Fact: margarita is the Spanish word for daisy.

When did the frozen margarita become popular?

When blenders began to appear in bars in the 1950s, the frozen margarita gained popularity. In 1971, Dallas restaurant owner Mariano Martinez created the first frozen margarita machine. He did this to keep up with demand for blender-made frozen margaritas. Today, his restaurants, Mariano's Hacienda and La Hacienda Ranch, can be found in a few Texas cities - Addison, Colleyville, Dallas, and Frisco. You can find his original machine in the Smithsonian museum.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tequila Blanco or silver
  • ½ cup triple sec orange liqueur
  • 12 ounce can of Minute Maid Frozen Limeade
  • TONS of Ice

Instructions

  1. Add tequila, triple sec, and frozen limeade to a blender.
  2. Put ice in the blender until it is filled to the top with ice.
  3. Blend for about one minute until all ice particles are gone and it has a slushy, frozen consistency. You may need to add more ice, if needed.
  4. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Don't be afraid to over blend - that's how you will get a smooth frozen margarita texture. Make sure to blend the ice enough so the consistency is slushy and frozen rather than icy.
  • You can add frozen strawberries in syrup to make this into a Frozen Strawberry Margarita!
  • Tacos and margaritas are a classic combination - I love to serve this drink with fried shrimp tacos, beer battered fish tacos, or slow cooker chicken tacos.

  1. I want to make this for 75 guests, Do you know how I can make this on the rocks and not frozen margaritas? I didn't want to water it down too much in the large beverage containers. Thank you

    1. If you want to use the Minute Maid concentrate, I would make the concentrate according to the package instructions. Or, you could use a jug of pre-made limeade such as "Simply Limeade". Add ice right before when serving. Note that I haven't tested this recipe with either of those methods, let me know how it turns out!

    1. Grand Marnier is a variation of triple sec, so you don't need to add both. One or the other is fine. Depending on how much you added, it may be better just to make a bigger batch and balance the other ingredients proportionally.

Keep it simple. Love it! This is the exact Margarita I want for my pool parties! No organic, plant-based, responsibly-sourced, etc. ingredients. Icey booze and sugar! Thank you!

I used pamplemousse instead of triple sec but the ratio is perfection. I've never gone w the "over blend" direction but did this time and it is perfection. I'm going to try with red wine and strawberries, see if I can get a good sangria margarita version. Thanks for this!

So good! So easy! Really fun recipe, I love using Minute Maid container to measure out the tequila and triple sec.

      1. It's similar. You can use frozen Bacardi margarita mix in place of the Minute Maid limeade. Keep in mind, the limeade is 12 ounces and the Bacardi can is only 10 ounces, so you may want to adjust the amount of tequila and triple sec.

The recipe is for a 12oz can. I apologize for any confusion, I didn't think they were sold in 6oz cans.
