Why We Love this Recipe
Simple and sophisticated: With just four ingredients, this elderflower gin cocktail is effortlessly elegant, proving that complexity isn't always necessary for a delicious drink.
Quick and easy: This cocktail with elderflower liqueur is a breeze to whip up, requiring minimal effort and time. It's the perfect choice for impromptu gatherings or when you're craving a refreshing drink without the fuss.
Seasonal summer cocktail: While this gin and elderflower cocktail is delicious year-round, it's even better when raspberries are in season. Raspberries are at the peak of sweetness and juiciness during the summer months.
Ingredients
- Gin serves as the base spirit, providing depth and complexity with its botanical flavors. Gin has herbal and juniper notes that pair beautifully with the floral essence of elderflower liqueur, creating a well-balanced and sophisticated drink. Note: Beefeater London dry gin is my personal favorite gin.
- St Germain is an elderflower liqueur that has a delicate floral aroma and flavor, imparting a subtle sweetness and depth.
- Raspberries add a burst of freshness and vibrant color to the cocktail, while also providing a sweet and tart flavor profile.
- Lemon juice adds brightness and balances the sweetness of the raspberries and elderflower liqueur. For another lemon forward drink, try my lavender lemon drop martini next!
Variations
- Blackberry: Muddle fresh blackberries or add a splash of blackberry simple syrup to make a blackberry version of this drink.
- Make it sparkling: Top this St Germain gin cocktail with sparkling water, tonic water, soda water, or prosecco for a fizz or bubbly version.
- Add herbs: Muddle fresh basil, thyme, or mint leaves along with raspberries for an herbal infusion.
- Citrus: Lime juice can be used instead of fresh lemon juice.
- St. Germain can be a little on the pricey side, so I often use an off brand of elderflower liqueur when making this drink. Drillaud elderflower liqueur is about half the cost of St. Germain and has a very similar, if not the same, taste.

Recipe FAQs
Muddling is a bartending technique used to extract flavors from fresh ingredients like fruits, herbs, or spices. To muddle a drink, start by placing the ingredients at the bottom of a glass or cocktail shaker. Then, use a muddler—a specialized bartending tool—to gently press and twist the ingredients against the bottom of the container.
When making any gin cocktail, use a good-quality gin that you enjoy drinking whether it be Tanqueray, Empress, or Hendrick's gin. My personal favorite gin to use is Beefeater London dry gin.
St. Germain is a French liqueur made from elderflower blossoms, a flower from the Elderberry Tree. It's known for its sweet and subtle flavor profile, with hints of pear, peach, and citrus, along with distinct floral notes.
