    Recipe Inspiration

Lately, I've been experimenting with lavender simple syrup to elevate my morning matcha lattes. The syrup's floral notes were so enchanting that I knew it deserved a spot in more than just my morning routine. This quest led me to craft this cocktail with lavender.

Lemon and lavender are a harmonious combination with lemon's zesty brightness and lavender's soothing elegance. With lemon drop martinis trending this season, it felt only natural to marry these flavors into the sophisticated and refreshing drink. Thus, this lavender syrup cocktail was born.

    Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make a lavender martini include a bottle of vodka, jar of lavender syrup, and lemons.
    • Vodka: The neutral flavor of vodka serves as the perfect base for this lavender martini, allowing the citrus and floral notes to shine without overpowering them.
    • Lemon juice: An essential ingredient in a lemon drop cocktail, freshly squeezed lemon juice adds a bright, tangy flavor. It balances balances the sweetness of the lavender simple syrup and adds a refreshing citrus kick to this lavender lemon drop.
    • Lavender syrup: Lavender simple syrup adds a delicate floral flavor that complements the tartness of the lemon juice, creating a unique twist to the classic lemon drop martini. I make the lavender simple syrup with culinary grade dried lavender.

I also suggest using my homemade rosemary simple syrup in place of lavender for an herbaceous twist.

Serve this lemon lavender cocktail in martini glasses or a coupe glass. Garnish with a lemon twist, lemon peel, or lavender sprig.

    Expert Tips

Lavender syrup. Prepare lavender simple syrup at home using dried culinary lavender, sugar and water. In a pinch, you can also use pre-made lavender simple syrup.

Quality vodka. Opt for a mid range to premium vodka with a smooth, clean taste. Since vodka is the base of this cocktail, the quality of the vodka affects the overall flavor.

Fresh is best. Fresh lemon juice provides a vibrant, tangy flavor that's superior to bottled juice.

Adjust to taste. Adjust the amount of lavender simple syrup to suit your taste. If you find the lavender flavor too strong or too weak, adjust the concentration of simple syrup by adding more or diluting it slightly with water.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I use store-bought lavender syrup instead of homemade?

Yes, you can use store-bought lavender syrup. However, homemade syrup typically offers a fresher and more natural flavor without any artificial additives.

What garnish works best for this cocktail?

A lemon twist or a sprig of lavender are ideal garnishes. The garnish enhances both the presentation and the sensory experience.

Can I add a sugared rim to the glass?

Yes, a sugared rim adds a nice touch. Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip it in sugar for an extra layer of sweetness and decoration.

    Ingredients

    Lavender Simple Syrup

    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup water
    • 3 Tablespoons dried lavender culinary grade

    Lavender Lemon Drop Martini

    • 1 ½ ounces vodka
    • 1 ½ ounces lemon juice freshly squeezed
    • 1 ounce lavender simple syrup

    Instructions

    • Make lavender syrup. Combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 3 tablespoons of dried lavender in a saucepan. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, let it steep for 10 minutes, strain, and cool. Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator.
    • Make the martini. Add a handful of ice to a cocktail shaker. To the cocktail shaker add vodka, lemon juice, and lavender syrup. Put the lid on the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass and serve immediately.

    Notes

    • This cocktail can also be made with store-bought lavender simple syrup in a pinch.
    • A cold glass helps keep your martini at the perfect temperature, so I like to chill the martini glass in the freezer for a few minutes before making this cocktail.
    • Adjust the amount of lavender simple syrup to suit your taste. Add more if needed to balance the tartness of the lemon juice or dilute the drink with water/ice if the flavor's too strong.
    • Garnish with a lemon twist or a sprig of lavender to enhance the presentation and sensory experience.
