Use blackberry simple syrup for cocktails, drinks, and desserts. Whip up a batch of homemade blackberry syrup using 3 basic ingredients in only 10 minutes!
Rinse the blackberries thoroughly, then place them in a small saucepan along with sugar and water.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves. Smash the blackberries using the back of a spoon or potato masher. Let the mixture simmer for 8-10 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Strain the syrup using a fine mesh sieve then stir with a spoon to extract all the juice. Discard the seeds and fruit remnants.
Allow the syrup to cool. Use it immediately or store it in an airtight container.
Notes
This recipe makes about 1 cup of blackberry simple syrup with a serving size being 1 tablespoon.
For the syrup to achieve a smooth consistency, use a fine mesh strainer to remove seeds and solids.
If you use frozen blackberries, there is no need to thaw them. However, you may need to simmer a few minutes longer.
If the syrup is tasting flat, stir in a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to bring out the flavor.
Save the strained fruit remnants to blend into a smoothie or add to yogurt or ice cream.
